Haitian Police Kill Over One Hundred Gang Members in Two Days
The drone-led assaults struck gang-held zones across multiple neighborhoods in the capital, Port-au-Prince. The strikes left at least 100 gang members dead, with numerous others injured, media reports said.
While Haitian authorities have yet to release an official statement on the mission, the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights verified that the operation had taken place.
Reports also suggest that law enforcement efforts are still active at several sites.
Haiti remains engulfed in a deepening security crisis, with heavily armed gangs exerting control over significant stretches of the country. The United Nations Integrated Office for Haiti recently revealed that 1,617 people were killed and another 580 wounded in violent incidents during just the first quarter of this year.
According to UN figures, those casualties stemmed from confrontations involving gangs, informal self-defense militias, unarmed civilians, and security personnel.
