Russian Envoy Unveils Details of Trump Talk
(MENAFN) Russia’s newly appointed envoy to the United States, Aleksandr Darchiev, announced that he had a short yet “very constructive” discussion with Leader Donald Trump on Wednesday, following the formal submission of his credentials at the White House.
President Trump had previously engaged in a phone discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 4.
This was their fourth exchange since Trump resumed his role at the White House.
Speaking after the meeting at the Russian Embassy, Darchiev informed a news agency, “We agreed on the need to restore ties in accordance with the instructions issued by Presidents Putin and Trump during their phone conversation.”
He emphasized his dedication to improving bilateral connections, stating, “I assured the president that, in line with the directives I received, I will do everything possible to help restore Russian-US relations and return them to a state of normalcy and common sense.”
The diplomat expressed optimism about the current diplomatic climate, describing it as “a window of opportunity” to rebuild dialogue founded on “mutual trust and equality.”
He further remarked, “Russia and the United States are destined, as great powers, to have a non-confrontational and peaceful coexistence.”
Darchiev highlighted that both countries are currently exploring economic partnerships and considering the reinstatement of direct air travel.
He previously told a media outlet that the Russian mission would seek to eliminate what he labeled as “absurd” limitations on Russian diplomatic operations within the United States, while also aiming to streamline visa procedures.
