Erdogan asks Iraq not to interfere with Israel-Iran conflict

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday urged Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani to avoid involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict during a phone call, according to a statement from the Turkish Presidency. Erdogan stressed that the escalating violence caused by Israel poses a serious threat to regional stability and emphasized the importance of Iraq remaining neutral.

The Turkish leader highlighted the need for heightened vigilance against terrorist groups and radical elements amid current tensions. He also noted that negotiations remain the sole path to resolving the nuclear dispute between Iran and the United States and called for caution to prevent further escalation.

Erdogan further stated that Israel’s attacks on Iran should not overshadow the ongoing humanitarian crisis and genocide in Gaza.

In addition, Erdogan spoke on Sunday with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Sabah. On Saturday, he held talks with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, and US President Donald Trump, warning that Israel’s recent military actions risk destabilizing the region and undermining global security. Erdogan affirmed Türkiye’s support for the US stance on continuing nuclear negotiations.
