EU’s Kallas Criticizes Israel’s Gaza Campaign

(MENAFN) European Union foreign affairs head Kaja Kallas delivered strong criticism of Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, asserting that the country's declared aim of gaining full control over the enclave and the forced expulsion of its civilian population are clear violations of global legal standards.

The remarks came during a session initiated by the Left Group, where for the first time, a European Parliament debate was titled with the term "genocide" to characterize Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Speaking in Strasbourg, Kallas acknowledged Israel’s entitlement to self-protection but asserted that "what we see in practice goes beyond self-defense."

Kallas further highlighted that the continued blockade of essential supplies such as food and medical goods for Palestinians in Gaza "does not protect Israel" and instead erodes "decades of humanitarian principles."

“The humanitarian situation is deteriorating,” Kallas cautioned, referencing recent accounts that over 50 Palestinians lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces while lining up for flour.

She said, "Aid sites are beyond shocking. Every day this war continues, humanity slips further away. Enough is enough."

She criticized Israel’s most recent offensive, launched one month ago, citing an "excessive use of force," damage to civilian infrastructure, and a "completely unacceptable" number of deaths.

Kallas noted that 90 percent of Gaza's residents have already been uprooted from their homes, and those remaining are entirely reliant on humanitarian assistance—which is currently being blocked from entering.
