Leonardo, Baykar Emerge to Lead Drone Industry
Speaking to a news agency during the 55th Paris Air Show held at Paris-Le Bourget Airport, Stefano Pontecorvo expressed strong enthusiasm about the collaboration.
“Let me say that we are very proud that we have been chosen by Baykar… as we have chosen Baykar and Baykar has chosen us as a partner,” he stated.
Pontecorvo went on to describe Baykar as “a terrific company, probably the best in the world.”
The newly formed entity, LBA Systems, equally owned by both parties, will be responsible for the design, development, production, and upkeep of drone systems.
This initiative marks a significant milestone for Leonardo, as it reflects their growing dedication to cooperative ventures.
“For the first time ever in our history, a common stand with another company—and that company is Baykar,” said Pontecorvo, underlining the depth of their alliance.
He further emphasized their ambitions: “We’re expecting to become a leading company in the drone space, and then we will build on that together.”
Pontecorvo also promised an “extraordinary product (…) for (the) European and world markets.”
Key drone models such as the Akinci TB3 and TB2—products already associated with Baykar—will play a central role in the collaboration, along with UAVs from Leonardo’s own lineup.
The chairman concluded by pointing out that a fixed platform will lead the efforts of the partnership, and Leonardo will “contribute in the maximum way,” highlighting the company’s full commitment to the venture.
