Former Ukraine Premier anticipates Zelensky will escape nation

(MENAFN) Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has predicted that President Vladimir Zelensky will resign and leave Ukraine, alleging that the United States has already decided to remove him from power. In a Telegram post on Sunday, Azarov claimed Washington has approved Zelensky’s ouster, noting that while some European nations may still support him, it’s unlikely to alter his fate.

Azarov, who served under former President Viktor Yanukovich, stated that Zelensky would likely be replaced by parliamentary speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, who would assume the role of acting president and lead a political transition in the country. According to Azarov, Zelensky will not remain in Ukraine after stepping down and might seek protection, although he suggested security forces would be unwilling to risk themselves for him.

He further pointed to the recent arrest of Leonid Mindich—allegedly tied financially to Zelensky and his chief of staff, Andrey Yermak—as part of a U.S.-orchestrated campaign to remove the president. Azarov highlighted that the arrest was not conducted by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office, but by anti-corruption agencies backed and overseen by the U.S.

“This is a strong signal that the process of removing Zelensky has begun,” Azarov wrote, adding that if Zelensky doesn’t step down willingly, he will be forced out. He also claimed that American auditors had arrived in Kiev to scrutinize the use of U.S. aid—allegedly under White House orders.

Zelensky’s presidential term officially ended on May 20, 2024, but no new election has been held due to ongoing martial law. Moscow, which insists Zelensky no longer holds legitimate authority, has nonetheless said it is open to negotiating with Kiev, though it warned that any agreement signed by an "illegitimate" leader could be legally disputed later.
