Brazil’s storms cause death of two people
Heavy rains over recent hours caused major rivers to overflow, resulting in floods in several areas, including Canoas, a city near the state capital Porto Alegre.
Governor Eduardo Leite stated that heavy rain and hailstorms have impacted at least 51 municipalities, forcing the evacuation of around 2,000 residents.
The worst effects have been concentrated along the Taquari River, where at least 17 municipalities have closed schools and suspended public activities.
Civil defense teams have begun relocating those displaced by the flooding to safer locations.
