Russia calls on Israel to stop its attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure
During a briefing at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson declared, “we consider the Israeli side’s attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran to be absolutely unacceptable.” She emphasized that such actions not only breach international legal norms but also pose a severe threat to global security, potentially setting the stage for a nuclear disaster.
One of Russia’s primary concerns is the safety of its experts stationed at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant. “We are particularly worried about the security of Russian specialists working at the Bushehr power plant,” she said, stressing the urgency of halting Israel’s military campaign against Iranian nuclear assets.
In addition to its appeal to Israel, Moscow also cautioned the United States against becoming militarily involved in the conflict. “We would like to especially warn Washington against military intervention in the situation, which would be an extremely dangerous step with truly unpredictable negative consequences,” the spokesperson stated.
Calling the Israeli airstrikes “unprovoked aggression,” the Russian official rejected claims that they were motivated by concerns over nuclear proliferation. She labeled those justifications as “outright cynicism” and insisted they were baseless.
The remarks came amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel. The latest escalation began when Israel launched a large-scale offensive targeting Iran’s nuclear installations, military facilities, and key scientific personnel.
