Iranian parliament authorizes closure of vital oil shipping route
Major General Esmaeil Kowsari, a member of the parliament’s National Security Commission, stated that “The parliament has reached the conclusion that the Strait of Hormuz should be closed,” as reported by state media. He also clarified that the ultimate authority on this decision rests with the Supreme National Security Council, Iran’s top security body.
The Strait of Hormuz is widely recognized as the world’s most vital oil shipping route, making any closure a significant global concern.
Earlier, the U.S. President announced that American forces had carried out bombing raids on nuclear sites located in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. These strikes represent a recent escalation in a US-supported Israeli military campaign against Iran, which began on June 13.
In response, Tehran launched missile attacks targeting Israeli cities and military positions. Israeli officials report at least 25 deaths and hundreds of injuries from these retaliatory strikes. Meanwhile, the Iranian Health Ministry has confirmed that Israeli attacks have resulted in 430 fatalities and over 3,500 wounded within Iran.
