Missing People Are Found Safe After Texas Floods
The number of those still unaccounted for has dropped to three as the search for victims moves into its third week.
The number of missing persons had peaked at over 160 following the July 4th deluge that swept across the Texas Hill Country.
The dramatic decrease marks a significant development in ongoing recovery efforts.
“This remarkable progress reflects countless hours of coordinated search and rescue operations, careful investigative work, and an unwavering commitment to bringing clarity and hope to families during an unimaginably difficult time,” said Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice in a statement posted on social media.
As of Sunday, Kerr County has reported 107 fatalities — comprising 70 grown-ups and 37 minors — making the event one of the deadliest natural tragedies the area has faced.
Across Texas, at least 135 people have lost their lives due to the floods. The Guadalupe River surged 26 feet, obliterating cabins, summer retreats, and entire towns in its path.
One of the most severely affected locations was Camp Mystic, a historic Christian camp for girls, where no fewer than 27 campers and staff members died.
Search and recovery operations remain vigorous. More than 1,000 personnel from local, state, and federal bodies — aided by thousands of civilian volunteers — continue to comb the river corridor from its origins to Canyon Lake.
