Vance Suggests Ukraine Peace Based on War Lines

(MENAFN) U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has proposed that a solution to the ongoing Ukraine war should be rooted in the current battlefronts, suggesting this as a practical, though not ideal, starting point for reaching a peace agreement.

He offered these comments during an appearance on Fox News, where he discussed what he sees as a potential path forward in the conflict.

During the interview, Vance gave President Donald Trump credit for creating a breakthrough that could potentially lead to dialogue between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Vance, “If you take where the current line of contact between Russia and Ukraine is, we’re going to try to find some negotiated settlement that the Ukrainians and the Russians can live with… where the killing stops,” though he acknowledged that “it’s not going to make anybody super happy.”

Vance asserted that Trump had persuaded Putin to reconsider his previous refusal to hold discussions with Zelensky, and that plans were underway to arrange negotiations involving all three leaders.

When asked whether a preliminary meeting between Putin and Zelensky without Trump might be more effective, Vance responded, “I actually don’t think it would be that productive,” contending that only the U.S. president could “bring these two together” for significant dialogue.

Moscow has repeatedly expressed interest in a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis but has emphasized that any agreement must establish a lasting and secure peace.
