Vance states US supporting Ukraine settlement according to present front line

(MENAFN) US Vice President J.D. Vance has said that any settlement to the Ukraine conflict should be based on the existing front lines, calling it a realistic, though imperfect, basis for peace talks. Speaking to Fox News, he credited President Donald Trump with persuading Russian President Vladimir Putin to reconsider his refusal to meet Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, with three-way talks now being considered.

Vance argued that Trump’s presence is essential for meaningful progress, rather than Putin and Zelensky meeting alone. While Russia has expressed openness to a lasting peace, it insists on a deal that ensures stability. Trump and Putin will meet in Alaska next Friday, with a Ukraine truce high on the agenda.

Zelensky has rejected any ceasefire involving territorial concessions, while Moscow questions his legitimacy since his term expired last year. Putin has said he is ready to meet Zelensky to finalize — but not negotiate — an agreement, stressing that the issue of Zelensky’s disputed status must be resolved for any treaty to be valid.
