Putin envoy states ‘Biden’s mistakes need to be corrected’
Trump has often described the Ukraine conflict as “Biden’s war,” claiming it would not have occurred had he been president in 2022, and emphasizing his intent to end it.
Dmitriev has played a central role in the Ukraine settlement process, hosting Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff during his Moscow visit last week. Witkoff held three-hour talks with Putin, which Russia described as “business-like and constructive,” noting that the US made an “acceptable” offer regarding a potential settlement. Following these discussions, Putin and Trump agreed to hold a summit in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15. Trump referred to the meeting as a “feel-out session,” indicating that a land-swap arrangement between Russia and Ukraine could be discussed.
Dmitriev also cautioned that certain countries seeking to prolong the Ukraine conflict might attempt to disrupt the summit with “provocations and disinformation.”
Meanwhile, speculation continues in Western media that Trump is aiming for a Nobel Peace Prize. Last month, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that it is “well past time” for him to receive the award. Additionally, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have endorsed Trump for the prize, recognizing his role in mediating their long-standing disputes.
