FSB reports terrorist assault frustrated in Moscow Region
(MENAFN) Russian authorities have arrested a dual Russian-Ukrainian citizen accused of planning a terrorist attack on a senior Ministry of Defense official in the Moscow Region, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported.
According to an FSB press release on Tuesday, the suspect—operating under the codename “Raven”—was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence while in a third country. Following instructions sent via Telegram, he allegedly built a homemade explosive device, hiding it in a car purchased with Ukrainian funds. The vehicle reportedly contained over 60 kg of explosives and was intended to be detonated when the targeted officer passed by.
The 36-year-old was apprehended en route to the attack location along the M-4 highway, which runs from Moscow to the Black Sea. During questioning, he admitted working with Ukrainian intelligence, claiming he was promised a return to Ukraine and exemption from military mobilization in exchange for carrying out the plot.
The FSB released footage showing the suspect’s arrest, his confession, and the inspection of the car, which revealed bomb components hidden in the trunk and under the front panels. A criminal case has been opened under charges including high treason and illegal manufacture and storage of explosives. The suspect remains in pre-trial detention and could face life imprisonment if convicted.
Russian security services frequently report preventing similar operations allegedly orchestrated by Ukraine. Last week, two teenagers in Novosibirsk were detained for an attempted poisoning of a Russian officer, and another individual was arrested in a separate case.
