Nordic Journalists Voice Readiness to Report from Gaza
(MENAFN) Multiple prominent media organizations from Sweden and Norway have voiced their willingness to dispatch reporters to Gaza, according to local reports on Tuesday.
These outlets conveyed their preparedness to act should the "opportunity arise."
Senior figures from Swedish outlets Sveriges Radio (SR), Expressen, Svenska Dagbladet (SvD), Aftonbladet, SVT, as well as Norway’s Verdens Gang (VG), informed SVT of their openness to sending journalists to the conflict zone when conditions permit.
Eva-Therese Grottum, head of VG’s news division, stated in an email, "We want to document the consequences of the acts of war, the hunger, and the situation of the civilians affected by the war."
Her remarks underline the intent to spotlight the human toll of the ongoing violence.
Similarly, Daniel Kederstedt, SVT’s editor for international coverage and interim responsible publisher, emphasized that observing daily life and revealing the stark realities of war is a "central part" of their mission.
Klas Granstrom, editor-in-chief of Expressen, added that, “We want to tell as much as possible about the situation in Gaza,” reinforcing the media’s interest in covering the humanitarian situation on the ground.
However, representatives from SR, SVT, SvD, and VG stressed that the safety of their personnel remains a top priority before any deployment.
According to Gaza’s Media Office, the number of journalists killed has climbed to 238 since the onset of Israel’s military campaign against Gaza in late 2023.
Israel continues to face growing global outrage over what critics describe as a genocidal offensive in Gaza, with the death toll nearing 61,600 since October 2023.
