Residential Building Fire Claims Seven Lives in Baghdad
Civil defense teams responded promptly but were unable to save the victims because the flames spread too quickly. However, they eventually succeeded in putting out the fire and stopping it from reaching nearby homes, Alaa Mohammed from the civil defense told media.
Authorities have launched an inquiry to establish the fire’s origin, Mohammed added.
This tragedy comes amid a spike in fire incidents across Iraq, where soaring summer temperatures have reached up to 50 degrees Celsius in many regions.
Earlier in July, a large fire at a hypermarket in Kut, the capital of Wasit province, claimed at least 61 lives. Shortly after, another fire in a civilian home in eastern Baghdad resulted in at least four fatalities and left two others critically injured.
