Marjorie Taylor Greene Apologizes for “Toxic Politics”
The Georgia representative, recognized for her staunch conservative positions and fiery rhetoric, has grown increasingly critical of Trump, despite having been one of his most fervent defenders.
On Friday, Trump accused Greene of shifting toward the “far left” and labeled her a “traitor.”
In a Sunday interview with a news agency, Greene acknowledged that Trump’s comments were “hurtful” but emphasized her commitment to “end the fighting in politics.”
“The most hurtful thing Trump said, which is absolutely untrue, is he called me a traitor,” Greene said, cautioning that such statements can “radicalize people” and threaten her safety.
“I would like to say, humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics. It’s very bad for our country,” she added, citing a surge in political violence, including the assassination of conservative organizer and podcaster Charlie Kirk, as motivation to “put down the knives in politics.”
Greene also confirmed that she will continue advocating for the release of all remaining unredacted documents related to disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump has urged Republicans not to assist Democrats in promoting what he calls “the Epstein hoax,” claiming that his rivals are trying to undermine his administration.
