Erdogan Condemns Civilian Suffering in Iran, Calls for Immediate Truce

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday voiced profound concern over the mounting civilian suffering in Iran, emphasizing that Türkiye will increase its diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and restore peace.

"We share the pain of the Iranian people. We are deeply saddened to witness this suffering, where it is the civilians, innocent children who bear the burden of the conflict," Erdogan said during an event in Ankara.

He pledged that Türkiye would maintain active diplomatic engagement until a ceasefire is achieved and stability returns to the region.

“We stand on the side of peace, we want bloodshed to stop, tears to cease, and for our region to finally attain that lasting peace it has so long yearned for,” he affirmed.

Erdogan highlighted that Türkiye’s main focus is on halting hostilities and promoting dialogue.

"If the necessary intervention is not made, the conflict will have serious consequences for regional and global security,” he warned.

"No one can bear the economic and geopolitical uncertainties that such a process would bring about. That is why this fire must be extinguished before it spreads any further."

Recent joint strikes by US and Israeli forces since Saturday have reportedly killed several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile attacks on US-affiliated sites across Gulf countries, resulting in multiple deaths. Reports indicate that four US service members have been killed and four others seriously wounded.

According to statements from the Iranian Red Crescent, the total death toll from these US and Israeli airstrikes since Saturday has reached 555.
