U.S., Iran Endorse Pakistan as Mediator for Talks

(MENAFN) Pakistan has emerged as a trusted diplomatic bridge between Washington and Tehran, with Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar confirming Sunday that both nations have independently endorsed Islamabad as a facilitator for potential peace negotiations — a development he described as a meaningful breakthrough amid spiraling regional instability.

Dar delivered the announcement to journalists on the sidelines of a quadrilateral gathering in Islamabad, where he conveyed that Pakistan was "very happy" with the confidence placed in it by both sides. He further revealed that he had personally updated ministers and representatives from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Türkiye on the emerging possibility of staging U.S.-Iran dialogue directly on Pakistani soil.

Islamabad, Dar made clear, is fully prepared to host and facilitate substantive negotiations in the near term, with the overarching goal of securing a wide-ranging and durable end to the conflict currently engulfing the Middle East.

Taking the diplomatic groundwork a step further, Dar disclosed that the gathered foreign ministers reached a collective decision to form a dedicated working committee. The body — drawing four senior foreign ministry officials from each participating nation — will be charged with mapping out the procedural framework for any prospective talks, operating on the basis of shared understanding and consensus.

The development lends fresh institutional weight to Pakistan's mediating role, which had previously been limited to informal back-channel exchanges, and marks a potential turning point in efforts to de-escalate one of the region's most dangerous standoffs in recent memory.
