Kremlin Cautions of Mideast War Creating Severe Consequences for Global Economy
Speaking to Russian state media, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov says, “We are now seeing extremely devastating consequences of this war for the global economy and for regional geopolitics. These consequences will probably not be short-term; they will have a long-term effect.”
On Russia’s potential participation in the Board of Peace, established by US President Donald Trump, Peskov notes that no decision has been made yet, adding, “the concept appears less relevant than before against the backdrop of US aggression in the Middle East.” The Board of Peace was created in January after 19 countries signed its charter in Davos. Initially, it was designed to manage the Gaza Strip following Israel-Hamas agreements, but the US promotes using it to address conflicts in other regions.
Regarding the recent visit of Russian parliamentarians to the US, Peskov describes the trip as “useful” and expresses hope that further, more substantive exchanges between Russian and US lawmakers will follow. “Of course, this trip is very useful. We hope that these contacts will be followed by new ones, perhaps more substantive,” he says.
