Iran’s UN Envoy Condemns Trump’s Threat to Destroy “Whole Civilization”

(MENAFN) Iran’s envoy to the United Nations sharply condemned US President Donald Trump’s social media post on Tuesday that warned of destroying the “whole civilization” of Iran, describing it as a blatant declaration of potential "war crimes," according to reports.

"Today, the President of the United States again resorted to language that is not only deeply irresponsible but profoundly alarming, declaring that 'the whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back'," Amir Saeid Iravani told the UN Security Council after Russia and China vetoed Bahrain’s draft resolution on the Strait of Hormuz.

Iravani described it as "regrettable and alarming that while in full view of the international community, the President of the United States shamelessly and brazenly issues threats" to target Iranian civilian infrastructure, including "bridges, power plants, and energy facilities," by setting a specific deadline.

He added that such statements revealed an explicit "intent to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity."

Referring to the vetoed resolution, Iravani argued that it "would only embolden the United States and the Israeli regime to continue in their unlawful actions and atrocious crimes, while shielding from accountability."

He further criticized the resolution as "flawed -- factually, legally and politically" and labeled it "entirely one-sided, biased, and indefensible."
