UN Reports Extensive Israeli Military Activity in Lebanon Over Three Days
(MENAFN) The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon has documented intense Israeli military activity over a three-day period, according to a UN spokesperson on Monday.
Speaking at a press briefing, Farhan Haq said UNIFIL observed a significant increase in military movements across its area of operations between Friday and Monday.
"Between Friday and today, UNIFIL has continued to record extensive military activity across this area of operations," Farhan Haq said at a news conference.
He added that peacekeepers tracked a large number of aerial or projectile movements attributed to both Israeli forces and Hezbollah during the same timeframe.
Haq noted that "peacekeepers observed more than 1,296 trajectories or projectiles attributed to the Israeli Defense Forces, and 64 trajectories or projectiles attributed to Hezbollah" during this period.
He also reported ongoing restrictions on UNIFIL operations, saying peacekeepers continue to face daily limitations on their movement. In one incident, an Israeli tank and bulldozer reportedly obstructed UN personnel in Sector West on Saturday.
Haq stressed the importance of ensuring UNIFIL’s operational freedom, stating that all parties are responsible for allowing the mission to carry out its mandate without obstruction.
Citing information from the UN humanitarian coordination office, he also pointed to a worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon despite the ceasefire framework.
"More than 100 strikes were reported in the past 24 hours alone, while 87 people were killed over the weekend," he said.
